How did the Romans manage to effectively combine their whole empire into one unit?

The Romans managed to effectively combine their whole empire into one unit by having a strong economy, military, and government. The ability to trade with roads helped the Romans have a booming economy. Goods were transported much faster than before and traditions began to spread as well. The Roman military kept the Empire secure and safe. The Romain's are a very war-familiar state; their character defined by war. Lastly, the Roman empire managed to be one unit with their government. The Roman Government had many instances of local self-government. This helped keep Roman citizens in order. The combing of all these aspects of Roman society managed to become one unit of the Empire.
